Baby Chicks

The same day we picked up the four pullets, we were given 11 fertilized eggs by the farmer.  One of our adult hens, Trouble, was acting broody and wanting to sit on her nest all day.  Given that we had a broody hen, Sally thought it would be fun to see if she could actually hatch some eggs.

21 days later, nine of the eggs hatched.
The newborn chicks were decidedly egg-shaped, and unbelievably cute. Chickens can forage, eat, and walk from the day they are born. The baby chicks were up and moving around the coop immediately.
The baby chicks are voracious eaters and grow quickly. Although these are bantams, which means they will only get to be about half normal size when they are full grown.
