Map of the Islands of Magic

Juniper is obviously a kid who has read her share of fantasy books, with their detailed maps at the front. She also observed that if you turn it upside down, it looks like a dinosaur! (Lucky coincidence, not something she planned)

This is definitely one where it's worth clicking on the image and opening up the full size picture--lots of detail.

2nd grade at the Botanical Gardens

Juniper's class recently took a field trip to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and Piedmont Park. Aaron was one of the chaperones, and Hazel got to come along. They were lucky to have beautiful spring weather for the day.

Light saber dueling

Hazel recently discovered that Aaron's friend Richard is the best grown-up ever.

His light sabers really glow and are sturdy enough for dueling. Some of them even have sound effects.

Hazel seemed to appreciate the awesome responsibility of getting to wield an actual light saber.

I think the daughters won this fight -- no surprise given their advantage in numbers and higher ground.

Kids in the kitchen

Hazel helping to make a pancake breakfast.

Juniper was home sick one day and quietly gave Aaron this note while he was on a work phone call around lunchtime. In case you can't read it: May i use the clam chowder for lunch? Yes/No. It has insturctions. When he came out from his call, Aaron found the leftover clam chowder in a neatly labeled container in the fridge.

Overheard in the H-D household

Sally: I'll take that under advisement. Do you know what that means?
Juniper: Yes. You'll think about it. Which is kind of grown-up for "maybe."

Hazel: Is this spooning?
Sally: Sort of.
H: What is it?
S: Cuddling?
H: Is this forking?

Hazel: On a scale of 6 to 8, I think this cheese is a 7.

Juniper [singing]: Little turd Fufu, hoppin' through the sewer, scoopin' up the microbes and boppin' 'em on the head.
Aaron [whispering]: I don't want to encourage poop talk at the table, but it's hard to stop her when she's making up songs about microbes.

Juniper: Hazel is trying to tickle my imagination.

Aaron: I like hanging out with you.
Hazel: I know.
A: Yeah, but it's still good to say sometimes.
H: I can tell by your actions.

Hazel: What tree has the best bark?
Luke: An oak sap
H: No, it's a joke. It's not an oak sack.
L: Oak sap.
H: What tree has the best bark?
[pause]
L: That one!
H: No, a Dogwood!

Juniper: [whispering during her school's foreign language showcase event] The patriarchy is woven throughout the Spanish language.

Happy Star Wars Day

Hazel arriving at preschool this morning.

May the Fourth be with you!

From Hazel: Me and Ms. Lonnette had a good day. This is the same morning that you saw at the front, and Maggie, my best friend who usually comes to preschool, is not with me. Happy May the Fourth, and let the Force be with you too! And, I've watched all of the Star Wars movies and the names of them that I've watched are A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Force Awakens. My cousin also really likes Star Wars, and my other best friend.
