Galveston-Bolivar Ferry

A tradition from my own childhood that we've carried on with the girls: riding the Galveston - Port Bolivar Ferry and feeding the gulls whenever we visit Texas City.

Texas City Family

Last fall we visited with the Applegath family in Texas City, including my nonagenarian grandparents.

The girls enjoyed their time with Meemaw, Pawpaw, Uncle Tom, and Uncle James.

Every Applegath family gathering must include games, and this was no exception! I've played countless games at this very table, sitting in these same chairs, and it's deeply satisfying for my girls to do the same.

One of my favorite moments of the trip was watching Grampa teach Hazel to play train dominoes.

The girls were delighted to get lollipops as part of the children's service at their church. Gramma was just delighted by the girls.

She and Hazel enjoyed some good reading time together.

What fantastic role models! May we all live so richly...

...and so full of love.

Cousin Laura

We recently had the pleasure of spending a week with my cousin Laura when she came to Atlanta for a course at the Emory School of Nursing. As far as Juniper and Hazel are concerned, Laura is a total rock star. They couldn't get enough of her. (The grown-ups also appreciated the opportunity for some one-on-one time with someone we normally only see at big family reunions.)

Texas City trip part 1: Family

A few weeks ago, all of the Atlanta-area Honeycutts and Honeycutt-Dills went to visit the Applegath family in Texas City.

The kids were all impressed with Uncle James on the unicycle. Once Mark tried it out and we saw just how hard it was, the adults were even more impressed.

Little Caroline snuggling with her beloved PawPaw. It would be hard to overstate how much she adores her great-grandfather, or to overstate how heartwarming that adoration is.

My grandparents eat at their neighborhood Mexican restaurant every Sunday night. Hazel enjoyed Uncle James' company and the chips...

...but she really loved the mariachi band!

Great Grands

Happy Anniversary, Fred and Wanda!

A few weeks ago we went to Texas to celebrate my grandparents' 65th wedding anniversary. They are quite an inspiration for the rest of us. After 65 years, their affection for one another is still obvious to anyone who spends time with them. It was a joyful celebration of love and family, with almost all of the Applegaths attending.



Juniper was pretty smitten with her cousin Aubrie.



Hazel spent a lot of time with her great-grandmother.



Oh joy! Juniper was completely entranced by my grandfather's automatic card shuffler.
